Out with old, in with the new....blog!

Okay, so I think I've been going about this whole blog thing the wrong way.

When I started, I thought I'd begin to write whatever was in my head and eventually things would take shape...but I'm scatter-brained at times so that hasn't happened.

...and then I thought..."Well, people write about their favorite genre of music....their job....movies....books.....or, if you're Abby Sunderland, sailing around the world." But let's be honest with ourselves, here, my interest in most of those topics change from day to day...and I'm no Abby.

I'm also still jobless after searching for a month...

I watched "Julie & Julia" the other day. Now, I don't cook....but I believed there was something there....and that's when I figured out my blog could have a purpose.

After mulling it over, I decided to give my blog a bit of an overhaul...I would take my frustration from sharing a home with an 82-year old and a busy mother and twist it to my benefit.

If I'm going to be at home and be jobless, by golly, I'm making the best of it. I'm not living in a dirty house anymore...I'm cleaning this place up.

and the kitchen's getting it first. Let me show you what I'm working with...

To the untrained eye, this doesn't look so bad....but when you're up close and have to get a mixing bowl out, it's a jumbled mess. We don't use half of these dishes, ever.

On the top shelf is the third box of ice cream cones we have...and a basket of plastic bags we never use...the animals crackers on the bottom shelf have been there for over a year.

Notice the random onion in the top left cubby? And a lot of those chips and crackers expired long ago...

This will be my toughest part of cleaning up....I can pretty much throw away everything in the cupboard, it's all very old...so Mammaw won't like it. On the bottom shelf (although you can't see it) there are mouse droppings. On the very very top of the cupboard is another basket of plastic bags and drink packets.

As I'm sure you've noticed, we have 8 ice trays (one is hidden behind the meat). There are plenty of things to throw away in here...and, once again, Mammaw probably won't be happy with the results.

This will take me a few days and I'll give you "after" shots of everything pictured here. Once I'm done with the kitchen, my next little project will be the bathroom....yuck.
